What this trial is testing
Condition(s) listed: Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), Ulcerative Colitis (UC) and IBD-unclassified (IBD-U). This is an observational study: researchers collect information (for example questionnaires, samples, or scans) but the study does not assign a treatment.
Who can join
- Ages 14 and older
- Any sex
- Healthy volunteers accepted
Some of the main requirements, copied from the record:
- Ability to give informed consent
- Ability to complete all study visits and study-related procedures
- Ability to understand and complete study questionnaires
- Must have at least one first-degree relative with inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, or IBD-unclassified)
- Age ≥ 14
There are also 2 reasons someone might not be able to join (exclusion criteria). Only the trial team can confirm whether you qualify.
What's involved
- About 50 participants are expected to take part.
- The study has 1 group.
- Start date: 2024-12-18.
- Main results expected around 2034-12 (estimate from the record).
- 1 study site listed (1 marked recruiting) in United States.
Groups in this study
- Individuals who have a parent, sibling, or child with IBD but who do not have IBD themselves
Main thing being measured
- Number of participants who develop inflammatory bowel disease (Through study completion (an anticipated 10 years))
In the researchers’ words
First-degree relatives of people with inflammatory bowel disease ("IBD," including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis) have an increased risk for developing IBD themselves. This study will follow unaffected first-degree relatives (who do not have IBD) over time to understand if their behaviors, diet, and biomarkers for IBD can help predict who gets IBD and if IBD can be prevented in these high-risk individuals.…

Questions to ask your doctor and the trial team
- Am I likely to qualify, given my health history?
- What would I have to do, and how often would I need to visit?
- Could I get a placebo? What happens to my current treatment?
- What are the possible risks and benefits?
- Are travel or other costs covered?
- What happens after the trial ends?
