In plain English
What this trial is testing
Condition(s) listed: IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease) and Musculoskeletal Ultrasound. This is an observational study: researchers collect information (for example questionnaires, samples, or scans) but the study does not assign a treatment.
Who can join
- Ages 18 and older
- Any sex
Some of the main requirements, copied from the record:
- patients diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis)
- Patients without a definite diagnosis of inflammatory arthritis, to focus on subclinical musculoskeletal involvement.
There are also 2 reasons someone might not be able to join (exclusion criteria). Only the trial team can confirm whether you qualify.
What's involved
- About 81 participants are expected to take part.
- Start date: 2025-10-01 (planned).
- Main results expected around 2025-11-30 (estimate from the record).
- No study sites are listed yet. Check the official record for contact details.
Main thing being measured
- the prevalence of subclinical musculoskeletal abnormalities (baseline.)
In the researchers’ words
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, frequently presents with musculoskeletal extraintestinal manifestations (EIMs), such as arthritis and enthesitis, affecting up to 50% of patients. These can be subclinical and are often underestimated by physical examination alone.
This is a short automatic summary built from the official record. A fuller plain-English card is coming; until then, please read the official record.
Questions to ask your doctor and the trial team
- Am I likely to qualify, given my health history?
- What would I have to do, and how often would I need to visit?
- Could I get a placebo? What happens to my current treatment?
- What are the possible risks and benefits?
- Are travel or other costs covered?
- What happens after the trial ends?

Interventions
- MSK Ultrasound with Doppler on joints, muscles & tendons (Radiation)
Musculoskeletal Ultrasound (MSK-US) is a non-invasive, real-time, and sensitive imaging modality that can detect synovial hypertrophy, joint effusion, enthesitis, tenosynovitis, bursitis, and power Doppler (PD) signal indicative of active inflammation. Unlike standard clinical assessment, which may miss subclinical inflammation.
Full eligibility criteria (from the record)
Inclusion Criteria: * patients diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis) * Patients without a definite diagnosis of inflammatory arthritis, to focus on subclinical musculoskeletal involvement. Exclusion Criteria: * Patients with a prior clinical diagnosis of inflammatory arthritis or other rheumatologic diseases. * Patients with complicated or severe comorbidities that may interfere with musculoskeletal evaluation or study participation (e.g., severe infections, malignancies).
