This study is testing Mesalamine (a drug) and Pentoxifylline (a drug) as a possible treatment. Condition(s) listed: Inflammatory Bowel Diseases.
Participants are assigned to groups by chance (randomized).
It is blinded: participants and the study team do not know who receives what.
Phase 2 studies test whether a treatment shows signs of working, and keep checking safety, in a larger group of people with the condition.

In the researchers’ words
Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a persistent, idiopathic form of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) marked by uninterrupted inflammation of the colon's mucosal lining, usually starting at the rectum and progressing proximally in a continuous manner. Interventions
- Mesalamine (Drug)
Mesalamine is the standard first line treatment of ulcerative colitis - Pentoxifylline (Drug)
Pentoxifylline (PTX), a methylxanthine derivative and non-selective phosphodiesterase inhibitor, has been extensively studied for its anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory actions. It inhibits TNF-α production at the transcriptional level and downregulates several inflammatory cytokines, including IL-1β, IL-6, and interferon-γ
