In plain English
What this trial is testing
Condition(s) listed: Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis), Crohn Disease (CD) and Ulcerative Colitis (UC). This is an observational study: researchers collect information (for example questionnaires, samples, or scans) but the study does not assign a treatment.
Who can join
- Ages 0 to 55
- Any sex
- Healthy volunteers accepted
Some of the main requirements, copied from the record:
- Asymptomatic first degree relative (FDR) (siblings or offspring) of patients with CD or UC aged between 0 and 55 years.
There are also 4 reasons someone might not be able to join (exclusion criteria). Only the trial team can confirm whether you qualify.
What's involved
- About 7000 participants are expected to take part.
- Start date: 2026-03-26.
- Main results expected around 2036-02 (estimate from the record).
- 1 study site listed (1 marked recruiting) in United States.
Main thing being measured
- Serum antibody reactivity to microbial antigens measured using the Rapid Extracellular Antigen Profiling (REAP) assay, quantified as normalized REAP signal intensity (relative units) and assessed… (Baseline, 6 months, 12 months, 18 months, 24 months, 30 months, 36 months, 42 months, 48 months, 54 months, 60 months,…)
In the researchers’ words
Brief Summary The aim of the FIBER study is to identify potential triggers associated with the later development of IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) based on baseline characteristics and biosamples (blood, urine, stool, saliva, and tissue). Aim 1: To identify clinical, demographic, and immunologic factors associated with an increased risk of developing IBD in family members of IBD patients.
This is a short automatic summary built from the official record. A fuller plain-English card is coming; until then, please read the official record.
Questions to ask your doctor and the trial team
- Am I likely to qualify, given my health history?
- What would I have to do, and how often would I need to visit?
- Could I get a placebo? What happens to my current treatment?
- What are the possible risks and benefits?
- Are travel or other costs covered?
- What happens after the trial ends?
