In plain English
What this trial is testing
Condition(s) listed: Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). This is an observational study: researchers collect information (for example questionnaires, samples, or scans) but the study does not assign a treatment.
Who can join
- Ages 18 and older
- Any sex
- Healthy volunteers accepted
Some of the main requirements, copied from the record:
- Adults aged 18 years or older.
- Individuals who are either healthy with no known finding of inflammatory bowel disease before the ultrasound examination or undergoing intestinal ultrasound for inflammatory bowel disease screening, monitoring, or another clinical reason.
- Individuals who are able and willing to provide informed consent for the collection and use of de-identified study data.
There are also 5 reasons someone might not be able to join (exclusion criteria). Only the trial team can confirm whether you qualify.
What's involved
- About 95 participants are expected to take part.
- Start date: 2026-09-15 (planned).
- Main results expected around 2027-02-01 (estimate from the record).
- 1 study site listed in Canada.
Main thing being measured
- Artificial Intelligence-Generated Bowel Wall Thickness Measurement Agreement (Day 1, after completion of the intestinal ultrasound examination)
In the researchers’ words
This observational study will use intestinal ultrasound images to help develop computer programs that may make it easier to assess bowel inflammation. The study will include adults who are healthy or who are having an intestinal ultrasound as part of care for inflammatory bowel disease, such as Crohn disease or ulcerative colitis.
This is a short automatic summary built from the official record. A fuller plain-English card is coming; until then, please read the official record.
Questions to ask your doctor and the trial team
- Am I likely to qualify, given my health history?
- What would I have to do, and how often would I need to visit?
- Could I get a placebo? What happens to my current treatment?
- What are the possible risks and benefits?
- Are travel or other costs covered?
- What happens after the trial ends?

Interventions
- De-identified Intestinal Ultrasound Data Collection (Other)
Intestinal ultrasound images and cine loops will be collected from adults undergoing ultrasound as part of routine clinical care. Following informed consent, the images and cine loops will be de-identified and used for artificial intelligence algorithm development, training, tuning, and testing. The study does not assign participants to receive an intervention, and the ultrasound is not performed …
Full eligibility criteria (from the record)

Exclusion Criteria: * Individuals who do not meet the study demographic requirements. * Individuals unable or unwilling to provide informed consent. * Pregnant individuals. * Individuals with health conditions managed using drugs or medical-device intervention, or with unmanaged conditions or conditions requiring monitoring, that could affect study eligibility or the ultrasound assessment. * Individuals who have recently taken contrast-enhancing compounds.
